Your Perfect West Coast Getaway

On the Weskus we found an abundance of opportunities to create memories for a lifetime. These moments are the reason we take our family on outings. It offers an abundance of activities to uniquely suit your family with a mix and match these experiences to design your next family getaway.

Discover Namaqua West Coast

Namaqua West Coast is probably one of the Cape’s most unique travel destinations. It is a place of iconic beauty and the home of the “rieldans”. This semi-desert landscape undergoes an amazing transformation during springtime when its rolling hills are covered in a carpet of colourful wildflowers. Namaqualand’s vibrant flower fields contain an estimated 3 500 species of plants, 1 000 of which are found nowhere else in the world. They have these magical never-ending unspoiled beaches in Strandfontein and Doringbaai, rugged campsites, and some of the best wines in South Africa.

Explore the Cederberg

The Cederberg has a rich heritage, local hospitality, culture, and extremely diverse natural beauty. You can explore ancient and mesmerising rock formations some offering glimpses into lives lived here centuries ago through preserved rock paintings made by the Khoi-San on their travels through this rugged landscape. To complement the ancient, mineral-colored mountains you will explore the Cederberg with its perfect coastline, beautiful scenery sea- and birdlife. It is also the only place in the world where rooibos tea can be grown.

Escape to Bergrivier

The area has a diverse landscape stretching from Velddrif on the Atlantic Ocean coastline in the West, to the high mountains of Piketberg and Porterville in the East. The Bergrivier provides for numerous water activities, as well as birding.  Velddrif is known for spectacular flamingo displays. The coastline and river also attract anglers all year round. Another cultural experience is a visit to historic Bokkomlaan in Velddrif. Here one can smell and see how the bokkom has been dried and sold as a local delicacy.

Experience the West Coast Peninsula

West Coast Peninsula with its wide, open spaces, charming fishing villages, unspoiled beaches, famous Langebaan Lagoon, and abundant animal and marine life. From water sports and whale watching to enchanting spring flowers, hiking among the fynbos, mountain biking, birding, and fresh seafood; this amazing destination has it all.

Taste the Swartland

Traditionally a grain-producing area, in summer the Swartland region is marked by green pockets of vineyards up the foothills of the mountains. The region is known for its wines and culture & heritage where you can experience how the Khoi-San lived. It’s also home to a wide variety of flowers, around 10% of the Cape Floral Kingdom can be found in the region. You will find excellent traditional food from locally-owned restaurants and markets where you can enjoy the traditional “roosterkoek” straight from the coals. In Yzerfontein you can have long amazing beach walks admiring the Weskus sunset.
